DSC Software AG presents SAP-integrated technical document creation and management solution at tcworld Conference 2008
The Engineering Control Center standard software by DSC Software AG permits efficient document and content management in SAP. It can be used to manage and use documents in a specific way for technical documentation purposes.
 Karlsruhe, 21 November 2008. The tcworld conference 2008 for technical communication and documentation was held in Wiesbaden from 5 to 7 November. At this event, Karlsruhe-based software and consulting firm DSC Software AG presented its standard software Engineering Control Center – ECTR – as a solution for technical documentation. The software is based on the SAP document management system. It offers all tools required for the company-wide management of product-related information. Thanks to its intuitively operated GUI, ECTR facilitates content management and organization substantially.
Companies attach great importance to delivering their products with high-quality operating instructions, manuals and data sheets. ECTR can be used to generate documents such as manuals from text modules and diagrams. These information units are managed as independent documents in SAP. SAP maps manuals as BOMs. Only the component concerned has to be changed if updates are made. This modularization also optimizes the re-use and the handling of changes. ECTR permits a consistent management of structured documents - embedded in the SAP business processes. The documents are saved in the SAP Content Server filing system. Suitable integrations can be used to integrate various applications such as Microsoft Office products, publishing solutions, image editing and CAD systems. The documents can be linked with other SAP objects by using drag & drop. The technical documentation is seamlessly integrated into the SAP-based business processes.
As a result, visualization files derived from 3D CAD models can also be used consistently in other applications, such as 3D publishing. If a component is changed, the where-used list identifies the files in the technical documentation that are affected by the modification. Extensive functions such as the SAP authorization concept, versioning and stamping are helpful support tools for businesses when processing and publishing technical literature and all kinds of documents.
Moreover, customer and product specific documents can also be generated individually in different languages and layouts. ECTR consistently manages all variants and versions. Consequently, every authorized employee has constant access to documentation that is always up-to-date, the customers always receive the matching product documents.
