Companies Served Well by SAP PLMSuccessful PLM Info Day of the Swedish SAP user group and of the PLM Alliance at Volvo in Gotenburg on March 12, 2008
Apart from innovations in CAD integration, the joint presentation by the PLM Alliance mainly emphasized solutions for data exchange and conversion in the multi-CAD environment. The solution EngineeringControlCenter was also highlighted. It allows CAD and non-CAD users to have direct process-related access to SAP objects and structures under a homogenous and convenient graphic user interface. Listeners, specialists and interested SAP customers learned a great deal in presentations and live demos on product data management, engineering processes, information life cycle management, content management and viewing and plotting with SAP PLM. The PLM Alliance experts also presented strategies, concepts and solutions for an optimized use of PLM. The PLM Alliance's focus on a consistent organization of product data, product structures and processes across departments deserves particular mention. It is used to depict all processes: from customer inquiry via product development/design and production all the way to customer service. This integral company-wide aspect of PLM was also emphasized by Per Högberg, Vice Chairman SAP User Group Executive Network and Chairman of SAP SA in his introductory presentation. Högberg stressed that administrating different objects, object relations and structures across the complete product life cycle was one of SAP's strengths. It is not only the software itself but also company organization and a methodical, targeted introduction of the solution that have a strong influence on project success, as demonstrated in a different presentation. SAP presented its latest developments and visions with its SAP PLM Roadmap 2010. SAP also demonstrated how to migrate SAP 4.6 C to the new SAP ERP 6.0. The presentation by host Volvo on its PLM project was a special highlight of the PLM Info Day.

A growing number of companies have decided or plan to use SAP PLM. How to introduce it, supplementary products available for using it efficiently and where the development is headed were the topics presented by the Swedish SAP User Group (SAP SA) and the PLM Alliance during the PLM Info Day on March 12, 2008. Approximately 80 trade visitors accepted the invitation to visit Volvo in Gotenburg for informative presentations on SAP PLM and live presentations of PLM Alliance solutions in the exhibition area. The successful concept of this event was confirmed by the visitor's positive reaction.
The integration of MCAD and ECAD systems, "Cross Discipline Engineering" for short and the utilization of existing native or simplified 3D data administrated by SAP for dynamic 3D viewing and publishing were also given special attention.
